Workshop
Abstract:
This workshop will show how to reduce overhead and improve employee performance. It will cover methodologies for analyzing return on investment for human capital management programs and assessing internal cost drivers associated with implementation. These methodologies will be shown though case studies and discussions on how to synchronize and integrate People Improvement Programs into and in direct support of every LEAN initiative.
Specific Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will learn:

  • “See” the Human Capital Management System, the Value Stream, and its business impacts.
  • Understand the importance of the “On Boarding” Process mapped to key business metrics.
  • Examine the Production Workforce Development Process to focus on reducing headcount with increasing productivity and capacity.
  • Focus on the identifying, developing, and growing a compelling leading indicator of future business performance—1st Line Leaders and their immediate Managers.
  • Know the principles of Building Bench Strength and Succession Planning
  • Proven methods of developing and resource justifying a Human Capital Management Strategy with a year by year plan to accomplish that strategy. 
  • Identify hidden cost drivers such as program and procedure development, courseware development, IT support infrastructure.
  • Modernize existing training programs.
  • Develop Return on Investment Models and prepare successful budget requests.
  • Integrating People into the Lean Journey. 
  • Leveraging the Value Stream Mapping Process to directly produce Job Descriptions and High Performance Behaviors.
Speaker Biography:

Joe Barto

Mr Barto is currently President & CEO Training Modernization Group. Prior to joining TMG, Mr. Barto was the Senior Program Manager of the Training Modernization Program at Northrop Grumman Newport News and the Director of Government Programs for Global Learning Systems. He joined GlobalLearningSystems.com in July 2000, and as the Senior Program Manager, he led a Modernization Team, comprised of Solutions Architects, Program Managers and Business Development Executives to create and implement total learning solutions. In two years, he established Learning Solutions Groups for major accounts in the government and government-regulated industries valued at over $3 Million. At TMG, Inc. he is responsible for strategic planning, business development, sales, program management, and client implementation of human capital performance improvement solutions.

He earned a Bachelor of Science (Systems Engineering) degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1978 where he was an Army Basketball Player and a Masters Degree in Public Administration degree from James Madison University in 1988 concentrating in Organizational Theory and Leadership. He is widely published in professional journals, is a frequent presenter at professional conferences.

Karl Buchanan

Since joining Training Modernization Group in January 2006, Karl Buchanan, has worked with the company’s executive team in building a recognized company of performance experts and an organizational scheme to match the ever growing and changing marketplace. At TMG, Inc. he is responsible for strategic planning and business development to include revenue planning and management, customer solutions planning, marketing, sales performance, and risk mitigation.

Prior to joining TMG, Mr. Buchanan was the Founder, President and CEO of Impact Athletics where he propelled the initial start-up company to $1.3 million in annual sales, became nationally recognized within the industry growing his customer base from zero too over 1500 in three short years. During this time he became a nationally recognized speaker within the industry and served as a consultant to numerous nationally known and accredited trade magazines and recognized publications.  

Mr. Buchanan served as Captain in the United States Army during both peace and war.  During Operation Desert Shield he was the Division’s Intelligence Officer for the 25,000 soldier 24th Infantry Division and then was the Intelligence Officer of the 2nd Squadron, 4th Cavalry which led the division into the Euphrates River Valley during Operation Desert Storm.  His accommodations include the Bronze Star; Desert Storm, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (x3), Southwest Asia Service Medal, Parachute Badge, and Combat Badge during his service. 

He earned a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration and Accounting) degree from The Citadel located in Charleston, SC in 1986.  He graduated and was recognized with honors both academically and military.  Mr. Buchanan’s awards include Gold Stars (highest academic honors), Company Commander, Distinguished Military Graduate, Distinguished Military Student,, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Summerall Guards.
